... lots of old tractors and old cars and community groups (and the VFW with a riderless horse) and candy being handed out, but we skipped the fair (Chelsea Community). It was nearly 90F and humid. The kids were already hot and bothered; and while DB might have wanted to go on some rides, he didn't want to deal with the heat and the crowds. SR was somewhat annoyed that they didn't have water for the band at the end of the parade like they've had the last couple of years. I'm not sure who missed on that one -- the Fair Board hands out ice cream to all participants, and iirc it's the FeedTheBand(tm) committee who's in charge of the water.

SR and I had gone to the fair on Thursday night, while DB was off at TaeKwanDo with J, and poked about the exhibit halls and watched a few heats of the Figure 8 Demolition Derby. Then took another wander through the swine hall (which had been closed for the Pig Show when we got to the fair) and the Creation of Life (day-old calves, week-old lambs (yes, very off season), a week-old goat kid, and a feedbin swarming with fluffy chicks), and then home. DB was grumbly that he didn't get to go with us, and J didn't want to go at all, so Friday morning he and I went and looked at the animals (he had no interest in the home-ec exhibitions or the tractor pulls).

I managed to park quite close to the parade route today (something about getting there over an hour before it started), and we got home well before J and DB did -- and the power was out. Very odd, as there'd been no storminess in the area. So J fired up the new generator. It works. :) Doesn't run the AC, though. And this is as hot as it's been all summer. Fortunately, the power came back fairly quickly, and we're all cooled off to 78F or so.
