Hmmm. We seem to have scared SR
Dec. 24th, 2007 09:21 pmI hope this doesn't put her off playing handbells forever. :)
There were Christmas Eve services at church this evening (good time for it, dontcha think?). The Handbell Choir played. One of the usual members is off at a family gathering this week, so SR is filling in for her for this performance.
johnridley took video of the service, as he often does. SR and I watched the video after we got home.
Umm. We'd obviously had the same teacher for handbell technique.* :) It was a fairly simple piece, lots of easy intervals, and she and I were playing a lot of unison parts (her left hand bell+my left hand bell, her right hand bell+my right hand bell). In true unison. Same arm action, same angle of the bell at hammer impact, same wrist flick, etc. It really was a little eerie.
* This would be the director of the Handbell Choir at North Congregational Church in the late 80s, who waylaid me in the halls one day and said "hey, jenni. You read music. Come and join the Handbell Choir." It takes a much stronger person than me to say 'No' to Ellen.
The church was 2/3 full at first service, and crammed full at the second service (good thing the fire marshall didn't wander past -- between the candles and the chairs in the aisles, we could have been in trouble).
The stockings are hung, DB is chased off to bed. SR is still up, so while I'll probably bring the wrapped gifts up soon, I'll have to hold off on the stocking stuff.
