My feet are sore.
Mar. 15th, 2007 03:59 pmWell, that was fun. For some values of fun. I don't think I was quite ready to stand for that long.
I was volunteering in the 'assembly' area for Band and Orchestra Festival. About 1030, the HS band director came in and told us that we were going to lose about half our space after lunch. The CHS varsity basketball team is still in the playoffs, and needed to practice. For some unknown reason, the coach and/or AD didn't look at the gym usage schedule until this morning, at which point they realised that the music department had it reserved for the day. "But they need to practice!" So, to the annoyance of the Facilities crew and the people working festival, it was decided that the gym needed to be reconfigured. While in use. Fortunately, we weren't actually 'staging' a band at the time....one band was done playing and was just waiting for their scores, and the other band had just arrived. (There were two other bands in the building, but they weren't in the room at the time.) Much shifting of tables, chairs, coat racks, and instrument cases ensued, as the bleachers at one end were retracted, the tarps rolled up, and the other dividing curtain dropped.
And there was close to two inches of snow this morning. With a crunchy ice-ish layer underneath -- not thick enough to make anything slippery, but it did make it a little more difficult to scrape the car this morning. The change in the weather (from 60+F to snow) was hard on my back, too. I was very stiff and creaky yesterday...much better this morning, once the weather stabilised.
