Esme and I went to camp. It was fun. I worked harder than I thought I would -- not that the music was really hard, but there was a lot of it. And I had a complication with mine. I walked into the first rehearsal on Tuesday evening, and the director asked me "can you read Bassoon music?" (as in, transpose it?) "well, yeah, I can." "oh good. Would you mind playing the second bassoon music this week? Oh, and the first bassoon player is also the piano player, and you may be playing the first part on occasion." Whee! So even if I'd played the music before (and I had done about half of it), it was a different part. The rough transpose isn't hard, but the accidentals take a bit of figuring, and I've never read tenor clef in my life. I spent a couple of hours the first couple of evenings marking up my music, just so I wouldn't sound like a complete incompetent in rehearsals. And then I swapped up to tenor sax for the small groups, as the group needed a second tenor.
Adult Band Camp is a small, single focus con. Really it is. It was great fun. I'd like to do it again, but I don't know if my shoulders will like it. I'm very stiff and sore right now, and I think I need to schedule a massage early in the week to stave off another visit to the ortho. I'll see how I feel in the morning.
And then I got back at 11:30 Sunday night, and J and SR had built a new side entry while I was gone! (see!?) Wow. Oh so very cool.
