Mostly done moving....

Yesterday was moving day. I went in about 9 am, and finished packing the top drawer of one filing cabinet, the loose stuff out of the other filing cabinet, and BC's desk drawers. I moved the boxes of ballots into the corner of the boardroom. NW and I moved the small table out of the office into the lunchroom and moved the desk from the lunchroom into our new space, then I put the small file cabinet under that desk.

Then the moving crew showed up, and they moved the heavy furniture. We got everything moved out of our old office and into the new office before lunch (a late lunch, but still...). Then the moving crew moved the contents of Z's office into our old room. He'll have fun with that next week! I had the moving crew move the shelf unit into the basement - at 100pounds, it's far too heavy for me to move by myself, plus it's a really awkward size. With that all done, I got to work unpacking things. The first thing I did was get BC's top drawers back into her desk, gave her the boxes with their contents, and said "here, sort these out; and do triage on the files I'm unpacking." We left about 4pm, with her computer reconnected and everything working, except for her external monitor and the phones, but with calls in to both IT and networking. I moved the ballot boxes into the office, rather than leaving them in the boardroom.

Today, I went in and assembled half of the shelving unit in its desired space, then went upstairs to start hauling ballot boxes down the stairs. The supervisor put the Board of Review to work, and had *them* move the 50+ pound boxes down the stairs. (They -- BoR -- had posted hours that they had to be present for, but there were no appointments or walk-ins, and so they were all sitting around chatting and working on their computers. No trouble for them to each haul a heavy/bulky box down the stairs.) So now *that* task is done.

Back into the office to set up my desk, and the IT guy is poking at things. We determine that the reason the printer isn't working is that it's not getting any power. Go downstairs, flip the breaker. Now it turns on, but the network can't find it. Well, that's a network problem, and above our paygrade. There is a call in to networking to get that fixed, but I don't have to be there for that, and it doesn't matter until next week. There is a printer that we can print to, and that's the important part. And the phones work.

"You know that band? 'Rage Against The Machine'? How they never tell you what 'The Machine' is? It's the printer."

I hope the new office digs are more comfortable and pleasant than the last.
