What a way to start Father's Day.

Mum called, from the hospital. Dad died this morning. She and my sister were able to get to the hospital before he died, but even if the hospital had called me I wouldn't have been able to make it, as we're just too far away.

I s'pose it's for the best (he was horribly unhappy), and it's not unexpected, but it's still hard.

My condolences to you and your family, Jenn. I've already lost
both my father (although I did not know him well) and my mother.
My one brother is in his mid seventies, too.
I also understand that it is not much easier because it is expected.
