There was a female downy woodpecker banging on the deck rails this morning. Didn't find anything, I hope -- she was in the area that's shaded by the rosebush, so it's more likely to get bugs than the rest of the deck.

Much better for downy damage than what my folks had - a pair of piliated woodpeckers started dismantling part of the deck supports. In two mornings they did amazing quantities of damage to a pair of treated 4x4 cross-supports!
