Western NC was already wet *before* Helene came through -- most of the mountains got 4-5 inches of rain early in the week, and then they got more. Lots more -- most locations got over a foot of rain. (one reporting station had 20+" of rain on Friday.)

I saw video from Boone showing King Street (their main street) 6" deep in running water on Friday afternoon. The interstates that go through the mountains are closed due to washouts, mudslides, & flooding. Asheville is under water, etc.

(Mum just called -- she's fine. They had some high winds from Helene, and spent some time in a tornado warning, but no damage, other than the tree that went down somewhere in High Point and took out their phone lines.)
